Feelings of being left behind, disconnected, or out of touch with current developments may trigger anxiety and emotional distress within this demographic. In this context, the Islamic psychospiritual approach is viewed as an effective and holistic alternative in alleviating emerging psychological effects. This article examines the dimensions of Islamic psychospirituality based on one’s direct relationship with Allah SWT through faith and outward religious practices as therapeutic elements for emotional imbalance and spiritual emptiness. The study adopts a qualitative approach through content analysis of authoritative sources and scholarly opinions. Supporting data from previous studies and literature on the psychological well-being of older adults are also incorporated. The findings indicate that the strength of spiritual faith and religious practices, complemented by social support, can stabilise emotions and reduce FOMO-related stress among older adults, particularly those with limited social support or low engagement in the digital sphere. This article suggests that psychospiritual approaches should serve as a foundational framework in developing well-being modules for older adults, in alignment with Islamic values and the challenges of the contemporary digital age.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/66048 Peningkatan Teknologi dalam Era Transhumanisme Menurut Perspektif Islam 2025-12-11T17:03:25+08:00 Lukman Hakim Mohamad Baharudin lhkim280403@gmail.com Atifah Ahmad Yusoff atifah@um.edu.my Noorafifah Waipin noorafifahwaipin99@gmail.com
Transhumanism, a movement that integrates advanced technologies such as genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and neural implants, has been rapidly expanding in the current era of technological progress. This study examines how transhumanism, with its vision of biologically and mentally transforming and enhancing the human being, conflicts with Islamic principles that regard humans as the best creation of Allah (ahsan taqwim) and entirely dependent on Him in matters of life and death. The methodology used is qualitative analysis based on primary sources such as the Qur’an and hadith, as well as the views of Muslim scholars. The findings show that transhumanism challenges the Islamic concepts of tauhid and destiny, where attempts to improve human beings through technology can be seen as rejecting God’s decree. This study highlights the need for a more comprehensive Islamic theological framework to address these challenges and suggests that Muslims adopt more responsive forms of ijtihad towards technological developments while upholding the principles of aqidah and the objectives of the shariah (maqasid shariah) in navigating the transhumanist era.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/64220 Sisi Gelap Dunia Islam Abad Pertengahan Menjelang Perang Salib Pertama (489-492 H/ 1096-1099 M) 2025-11-12T03:20:35+08:00 Mohamad Fikri Mohd Bakri iik190010@siswa.um.edu.my Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor m_roslan@um.edu.my Shu'aibu Umar Gokaru gokaru@um.edu.my
This study examines critical aspects of medieval Islamic society from the 10th to the late 11th century CE that may have contributed to internal weaknesses prior to the arrival of the First Crusade (1095–1099 CE). Existing studies on the Crusades often focus on external factors, such as Pope Urban II’s call and the motivations of European Christians behind the fall of several Islamic cities in the Bilād al-Shām region, including Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). However, they pay less attention to the internal conditions of the Islamic world that may have facilitated the early success of the Crusader expedition. Through a historical analysis of medieval Arabic primary sources, this study explores internal conflicts, political fragmentation, socio-economic issues, and institutional decline that plagued the Islamic world at the time. Preliminary findings suggest that the schism between the Fatimid caliphate in Egypt and the ‘Abbasids in Baghdad, ongoing Sunni-Shi’a conflicts, power struggles among local dynasties such as the Seljuqs, and economic crises due to disruptions in trade routes weakened the Islamic world’s resilience. This study hopes to provide an alternative perspective on the internal factors contributing to the early success of the First Crusade while enriching the literature on medieval Islamic history with a critical focus that has long been overlooked.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/66564 Analisis Pendalilan Sifat Waḥdāniyyah Allah Menurut Ibn Juzay: Kajian Terhadap Kitab Al-Nūr Al-Mubīn Fi Qawā‘Id ‘Aqā’id Al-Dīn 2025-12-11T16:57:44+08:00 Ahmad Faiz Mohd Khalil akademipemikiranturath14@gmail.com Mohd Fauzi Hamat mfhamat@um.edu.my Azmil Zainal Abidin hadiqah_irfan@um.edu.my
The discourse on the attribute of waḥdāniyyah (oneness) of Allah is a central theme in the discipline of Ilm al-Kalam, which is often referred to as the science of Tawḥīd. Scholars have presented various arguments to affirm Allah's oneness comprehensively and accurately. This study focuses on the reasoning found in al-Nūr al-Mubīn, authored by Muhammad Ibn Juzay al-Gharnāṭī, emphasizing rational arguments derived from the Quran. The study employs a qualitative research approach by analyzing the book's textual content. Findings reveal that Ibn Juzay systematically arranged Quranic evidence for waḥdāniyyah using rational and logical frameworks. This affirms that rational methods in the Ash'ari school of ‘Ilm al-Kalam are rooted in the Quran rather than external influences like Greek philosophy. The study contributes to understanding the art of rational argumentation in the Quran, demonstrating its decisive (qatʿi) and accessible nature, suitable for diverse societal contexts.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/67028 Konsep Wakālah dalam Pengurusan Zakat Pendidikan: Analisis Fiqh Terhadap Amalan Pelantikan Amil di Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia 2025-12-24T22:03:17+08:00 Mohammad Noorazlan Md Ismail noorazlanismail211@gmail.com Nor Aini Ali aini@um.edu.my Suhaili Sarif suhaili@um.edu.my
This article analyses the application of the concept of wakālah in the management of zakat for education in Malaysia, with particular emphasis on the practice of appointing amil at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In the context of modern zakat administration, the appointment of HEI amil through wakālah contracts functions as a governance instrument that links the authority of zakat institutions with the operational needs of zakat management at the institutional level. Using a conceptual research approach and document analysis, the discussion of fiqh muʿāmalāt on wakālah is systematically elaborated, covering its definition, pillars and conditions, termination of wakālah contracts, and provisions for remuneration for delegated wakālah services. These fiqh principles are then directly mapped onto the current practices of appointing amil at Malaysian HEIs to assess the alignment between fiqh theory and institutional governance realities. The discussion demonstrates that the practice of appointing HEI amil through wakālah is consistent with the fundamental principles of Islamic jurisprudence. However, the effectiveness and Shariah robustness of this practice depend on the clarity of mandate, governance structures, and monitoring mechanisms implemented. This article contributes to strengthening the understanding of the concept of wakālah in the context of zakat education and provides a more robust theoretical foundation for improving policies and practices related to the appointment of amil at Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/66834 The Metaphysics of Reality and Objective Truth: Sa‘D Al-Dīn Al-Taftāzānī on Nafs Al-Amr 2025-12-23T02:30:46+08:00 Mohd Saiful Aqil Naim Saful Amin mohdsaifalsiddiqi01@gmail.com
This paper examines the epistemological framework of the influential Ash'arite theologian Saʿd al-Dīn al-Taftāzānī (d.792 H), focusing on his theory of nafs al-amr (the thing as it is) as a foundation for objective truth. It analyzes al-Taftāzānī's critique of preceding models, particularly that of Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī and elucidates his argument that truth is a correspondence between a judgment and a mind-independent reality. The study demonstrates how this framework effectively counters sceptical and nihilistic challenges by validating the authority of the senses, intellect, and testimony, while also providing a coherent mechanism for establishing truth in metaphysical and abstract domains. Ultimately, the article positions al-Taftāzānī's project as an effective classical Islamic response to epistemic crises of relativism and agnosticism, underscoring its enduring relevance for contemporary philosophical and theological discourse.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/62904 Nyalase as a Socio-Cultural Interface Between the Sacred and the Profane in Madura, East Java, Indonesia 2025-07-15T22:32:51+08:00 Abd Munib munib11emdi@gmail.com Imamuddin imamuddin@um.edu.my Mohammad Ali Al Humaidy imamuddin@um.edu.my
The Nyalase practice, as a religious tradition of the Madurese community in East Java, Indonesia, is often regarded as a tradition of little value. Nyalase is a ritual that includes activities such as cleaning graves, planting ornamental plants on tombs, sharing a meal at the cemetery, and conducting communal prayers and tahlil. These activities reflect the encounter between two distinct dimensions: the sacred and the profane. To understand this dynamic, the research refers to the theory of Mircea Eliade, who asserts that human life always exists within a space where sacred and profane experiences intersect. In this study, the sacred refers to matters imbued with religious or holy significance, while the profane refers to the ordinary, everyday aspects of life that are not sacred. This research employs a literature review approach, gathering and analyzing relevant references such as books, academic articles, and other written sources to examine the subject matter in depth. The findings of this study indicate that the Nyalase tradition serves as a mediating medium between the sacred and the profane. Through this tradition, the Madurese community can experience profound spiritual moments, while also affirming that sacred elements can manifest within spaces and activities that are ordinarily profane. This highlights the cultural function of Nyalase as a collective transcendental experience.
2025-12-11T17:22:04+08:00 Zubaida Salim Said Shdhani omanalife111@gmail.com Mohamad Azrien Mohamed Adnan mdazrien@um.edu.my Said Aldhafri aldhafri@squ.edu.om
This study examines the impact of social media on youth in the Sultanate of Oman, highlighting the high level of engagement among this group on digital platforms and the negative and positive aspects of their use. The study indicates that excessive use of social media can lead to negative emotions such as depression and anxiety, particularly due to exposure to negative content and misleading news. While this use enhances learning and communication capabilities, it raises concerns about the erosion of authentic social bonds and increased isolation. The study also highlights the importance of enhancing cultural awareness and critical thinking skills among youth to help them distinguish between good and bad content. The questions addressed the level of self-control, national identity, and social media use among university students in the Sultanate of Oman, in the context of Oman Vision 2040. These questions aim to explore the relationship between these various factors, helping to understand how social media can impact national identity and self-control among Omani youth. One of the most important findings of this study is that it highlights the importance of viewing national identity as a critical issue that requires a comprehensive understanding of the multiple factors that influence it. As psychoanalysis theorists perceive behavioural manifestation majorly as a result of unconsciousness, heredity and early childhood experiences, social learning theorists on the other hand understand it as a result of consciousness and external influences. Youths, like other human beings do manifest different kinds of desirable and undesirable characters under the influences of both intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli. Majority of the contemporary Nigerian youths also manifest both moral and immoral behaviours. Therefore, this paper aims at uncovering the degrees of influences of both the psychoanalysis and social learning factors on the personality of contemporary youths. The paper also discusses the Islamic psychological position on personality development of the youths. Descriptive and analytical research methods were used in this work. The paper explains the ideal Islamic all-round personality development and also analyses behavioural modification using the Qur’ān, Sunnah and views of the Islamic scholars. The period from 1977 to 1988, under Zia-ul-Haq's leadership, witnessed a significant intensification of the Islamization process. During this time, he implemented a comprehensive initiative aimed at eliminating non-Islamic practices within the Pakistani state and society. The Islamization of Pakistani society during President Zia-ul-Haq's regime marked a significant and transformative period in the country's history. From 1977 to 1988, President Zia implemented a series of policies aimed at embedding Islamic principles in various facets of Pakistani life, including politics, education, and law. This intentional shift towards a more Islamic governance model had profound and lasting effects on the nation's social fabric. This paper delves into the key initiatives and strategies employed by President Zia to Islamize Pakistan, exploring the motivations behind these measures and their impact on the nation's cultural, political, and legal landscape. President Zia's Islamization policies, ostensibly designed to transform Pakistan into an Islamic state, involved legal and educational changes. The introduction of Islamic laws, such as the Hudood Ordinances, aimed to align the legal system with religious principles. However, critics argued that these policies were primarily a tool for President Zia to legitimize and strengthen his political power by garnering support from conservative religious segments of society. The measures faced criticism for potential marginalization of certain groups and raising concerns about the genuine commitment to creating an inclusive society.
2025-12-17T04:13:53+08:00 Safaa Muhammad Ghalyoun abdulrahman@iium.edu.my Abdulrahman Alosman abdulrahman@iium.edu.my
This critical study examines the forms of the “self” in the poetic discourse of Bashshar ibn Burd, beginning with the impact of blindness and the psychological disturbance it created in the poet’s perception of himself and of others. The research problem arises from the marked contradictions in Bashshar’s self-image, which oscillates between weakness and rebellion, pride and loss, thereby necessitating an inquiry into the psychological and social factors that contributed to the emergence of these divergent self-representations. The study aims to analyze the images of the self in Bashshar’s poetry and uncover their major manifestations, to clarify the impact of blindness and harsh life conditions on the formation of his poetic persona, and to interpret the relationship between the self and the other from a psychological and analytical perspective. The study adopts a psycho-analytical and textual approach, involving close reading of the poems and connecting them to the poet’s personal and social circumstances, in addition to analyzing the semantic and rhetorical structures that reveal the conflicts of the self and its shifting positions. The method of analysis consists of eliciting meaning from within the texts themselves and comparing them with biographical evidence, the surrounding cultural environment, and the intellectual tensions of the Abbasid period in order to explain the transformations of the self between submission and assertiveness. The findings show that the self in Bashshar’s poetry is not a fixed entity but a set of conflicting forms shaped by psychological factors -such as feelings of deficiency, repression, and compensation- and by social factors such as marginalization and low status, as well as by ethnic tensions between his Persian origin and Arab affiliation. The study reveals several distinct forms of the self: the broken self influenced by blindness, the proud and rebellious self that resorts to exaggeration to compensate for its deficiencies, and the fragmented self that reflects a crisis of identity. These contradictions, the study concludes, are not merely artistic phenomena but a direct reflection of the poet’s lived experience, his disputes, and his internal and external struggles.
2025-12-31T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Basirah Journal https://jummec.um.edu.my/index.php/ALBASIRAH/article/view/62344 “Hoarding” a Menace to the Socio-Economic Development of Nigeria: Panacea in the Light of Selected Ahādīth in Ṣunan Ibn Mājah 2025-12-05T10:53:02+08:00 Babatunde Yunus Abdul-Rahman dales20ng@gmail.com Abdulsalam Daud Olalekan doabdulsalam@alhikmah.edu.ng Badmus Saheed Adewale ibnsirooj1431@alhikmahuniversity.edu.ng
Hoarding (iḥtikār) has become a major contributor to Nigeria’s socio-economic instability, leading to artificial scarcity, rising prices, and the exploitation of vulnerable citizens.
