Qawa'id Al-Istinbath in The Interpretation “Majalis Al-Tadhkir Min Kalam Al-Hakim Al Khabir” of Imam Abdul Hamid bin Badis

Abstract

The commentary of Ibn Badis, titled “Majalis al-Tadhkir min Kalam al-Hakim al-Khabir,” has received considerable attention from researchers and universities worldwide in terms of editing, teaching, and examining its knowledge and benefits. This study aims to investigate the inferential principles employed by Shaykh Ibn Badis in deriving wisdoms, rulings, insights, and benefits in his exegesis. The study focuses on extracting the various types of inferential principles found in Ibn Badis’s commentary, including those related to usul al-fiqh, language, and Qur’anic exegesis, as well as maqasid-based and juristic principles. By employing inductive and analytical methods to extract, compile, and analyse these principles, the study concludes that the exegete Shaykh ‘Abd al-Hamid Ibn Badis relied on approximately fifty-one principles. These include ten exegetical principles, twenty-one usul principles, eight juristic principles, eight linguistic principles, and four maqasid-based principles. The researchers recommend further study on the impact of the inferential principles selected and employed by Ibn Badis in his exegesis, particularly in shaping his reformist and educational methodology.
