The elegance and vulgarity of The Golden Lotus are analyzed through the dominating figures’ daily life, subtle infighting between Ximen Qing’s wife and his concubines, and lust descriptions. Because of too many sexual descriptions and sex images in The Golden Lotus, the fiction couldn’t get rid of vulgarity. And just because of those sexual descriptions and sex images, The Golden Lotus couldn’t be transformed from vulgarity into elegance. So it’s just an outstanding masterpiece of realism with popular beauty.

通过《金瓶梅》中主要人物的衣食用度、妻妾的争风、色欲的描写等方面，对小 说的雅俗状况进行文本分析。《金瓶梅》中众多的性描写和性意象，使其难以摆 脱“俗”的称谓。正是书中众多的性意象和色欲的描写，使得《金瓶梅》一书并 未能完成由俗向雅的转化，仍是一部极具通俗美的现实主义巨著。
