The Ancestor Worship at Home of Chinese Family Who Lives in Kapasan Dalam Surabaya, Indonesia Pemujaan Lehulur di Rumah Etnis Tionghoa Surabaya

Abstract

Although, Chinese people often migrate, but their customs and cultural roots are still firmly attached to their homeland. This can be seen from their respect for ancestors. Chinese people are very grateful for their ancestors, because the ancestors take care of their lives and growth. To express their gratitude, they have to respect and take care of the ancestors. After the death of ancestors, they will continue to respect and care for ancestors. See the importance of ancestor worship for the Chinese people, the writer would like to do research about ancestor worship. Because of ancestor worship at home is the most important worship, the paper focus on the worship at home to be research topic. Based on the results of interview toward 10 Chinese who lives in Kapasan Dalam Surabaya, the writer found that they do ancestor worship simply, no strict rules how to worship. However, because different families have their own habits and circumstances, there is a number of different aspects in how they do worship. The most important thing is that they do ancestor worship. They have solid purposes that make them still do the ancestor worship until now.
